Who am I?#

I enjoy exploring the world with my wife and daughters, who provide me with motivation, support, energy, insights and often a good laugh. No matter where we are in the world, our home is a haven of the familiar -- a peaceful respite from the occasional bite of culture shock and the exciting chaos of adaptation.

After brief careers in software development and the Air Force, I discovered teaching. I have found teaching to be a very rewarding career because it allows creativity, challenge, interesting collegial relationships and the chance to observe students develop into confident and innovative mathematicians, scientists and computer scientists.

I want to know about how the universe works and to create tools to better understand it. I’m also fascinated by the remote past, and have always held a passion for archeology. Teaching affords me the opportunity to work at archeological sites in Europe during the summer months, providing me a fascinating glimpse into the past.

Along with my passion for artifacts and reconstructing the past, I have for decades enjoyed amateur paleontology, collecting and identifying fossils from all over the world. There are few experiences which compare with finding an intact Megalodon tooth while scuba diving over an ancient riverbed, which once cut through an even more ancient fossilized coral reef - a half mile off the coast.
